Choosing Your Ideal Car

Author: Philip G. Jones

Buying an automobile is one of the biggest purchases you might make in your entire lifetime. There are a lot factors to consider in making it a positive experience.

Decide first of all if your budget only allows for a used car. If this is the case then doing your homework is even more vital. Most times you don't have the luxury of having the history of a used car. Having a licensed mechanic to check out a vehicle you are interested in can save you a lot of money in the long run. You can have a feel for a vehicle when you see and test-drive it but if the current owner won't let you take it for a spin then I don't recommend you buy it. Again, use a mechanics help. Also take into consideration that a lot of used cars won't have a warranty. If it does not, you can still shop for one. It may be a hassle to go through the fine print but do it anyway.

In these economic times, buy only the car you need. With gas prices going out the roof you may not want to buy that big SUV unless you really need it to pull your boat or haul large equipment for work. Be honest with yourself. You may look at that Lamborghini and drool but it's not going to carry you and the kids and your dog where you need to go. Also, I don't recommend you get a 4 WD if you aren't going off road. An AWD may be a better choice for you as it will be much more economical.

Depending on where you live, such as a warm climate or snow country, can help you decide what color of car you may want to buy. The warmer climate of the southern states can make very difficult to be in a dark colored car in the heat of the summer, therefore you may want to consider a lighter color for your vehicle.

And finally, car insurance. There can be a big difference in rates. Your little neon may be a lot cheaper to ensure then that luxury vehicle you have been so admiring.

I hope this helps.
