Heart Rate Monitors

Author: Jason Gluckman

Heart rate monitors gained popularity in the mid-90s when people found them useful to monitor the heart rate while training and doing workouts. Over the years, they became standard on many exercise machines including elliptical trainers, treadmills and stationery bikes. If you workout often, training with a heart rate monitor is one of the most important things that you should do.

There are several types of heart rate monitors that you can choose from. The most common are the heart rate monitor watches and the strapless heart rate monitors.

Heart rate monitor watches are lightweight watches that can be used by anyone who wishes to lose weight, increase cardio training levels and reach fitness goals. You can choose from designs based on your needs and you can wear them as watches, since they have clocks built into them. If you wish to monitor your heart rate, you wear the chest strap, which is a sensitive piece of equipment that actually registers the heartbeats and transmits the rate to the receiver in the watch.

Meanwhile, the strapless heart rates monitors work without the need to use a chest strap. With these, you can obtain accurate ECG heart rate reading that measures the electrical stimulation of the heart. They only require you to put two fingers on the sensors between four and 12 seconds, to get a reading.

Heart rate monitors are indeed great tools to use for workout and training. If you go jogging, exercise and go to the gym regularly, the heart rate monitor watches are recommended for you. However, if you just need a heart rate monitor for casual monitoring, the strapless heart rate monitor is ideal.
