Quit Smoking Countdown

Author: Marguerite Pickett

I dont rightly know of any positive reasons for smoking, but there sure are a lot of negative ones out there: Its deadly to your health, it stinks to high heaven, it costs a fortune to smoke (double that for quit-smoking remedies and then starting up again), its forbidden everywhere you go and youre frowned upon if you do. So, tomorrow just might be a good day to quit. Yeah, thats a good idea--tomorrow.

Day 1: Today is the day - supposed to quit smoking. But darn, if I dont have that presentation to prepare for. Cant blow that now, can I? The boss would kill me!

Day 2: I really need to relax today. Let go of some stress. Not a good day to try that quit smoking thing. Ill do it tomorrow for sure.

Day 3: Going-away party for Joe tonight. Ill be putting a few away. Drinking and quitting smoking dont mix well, you know.

Day 4: Im really not in a good mood today. Too much partying! Best not to add fuel to the fire. Going to need my cigarettes today.

Day 5: I was going to quit today for sure, but what do you know, the car wouldnt start. Not a good way to start my day!

Day 6: By 8:00 a.m., no cigarette. Then I met Mary for coffee. Jeez, she smokes like a fiend.

Day 7: I still have a half-carton left. Theyre much too expensive to waste.

Day 8: I think Ill slowly reduce the number I smoke each day until theyre all gone.

Day 9: My daughter has this annoying habit of biting her fingernails. It drives me crazy trying to make her quit. Where are my cigarettes?

Day 10: I forgot I was going to quit today. I lit up and then it was too late. Oh well, theres always tomorrow!

Tomorrow is always a day away that never comes.
