Gear up your bath with vigor by tiling a shower with ceramic tile

Author: manoloK
If you want a strong, enduring yet affordable shower, tiling a shower with ceramic tile is the best option for you. A shower built in Ceramic tiles is very easy to clean.

Ceramic tiles will save your shower from the bites of humidity, dust mites and fungi. The ceramic tiles, specially the glazed ones assure you safety of waterproofing and protection from biological and chemical agents.

You have to indulge in a lot of labor for tiling a shower with ceramic tile. But your effort will pay off in huge profits with an excellent finish.

Tiling The Shower Walls

Tiling a shower with ceramic tile requires you to go about the job in a planned manner. The first step is all about laying the foundation for the shower walls. Backerboards, such as WonderBoard or Durock cement board, will be ideal for the walls. Being resistant to water, they will best meet the standards as base for installing ceramic tiles to high-moisture areas.

Backerboards can easily be installed directly on walls and fixed firmly to wall studs and ceiling beams with the help of hot-dipped galvanized nails or galvanized wood screws. Once the backerboards are well set, you need to cover all the joints with fiberglass mesh tape. Apply a coating of latex thin-set or an adhesive mortar before going ahead with installing the ceramic tiles.

Tiling The Shower Floor

Tiling the shower floor requires the pre-sloping of the floor. First you have to apply a coat of mortar to the floor creating a slope from the shower boundaries to the floor center, where the drain resides. This slope will direct the water flow towards the drain.

After the pre-slope of the shower is healed, organize to install a shower pan membrane liner. The membrane liner is a supple plastic liner, which is put beneath the sheet of tiles and mortars and guides the water let that dribbles through the floor grout to the shower drains below.

You will need to lay the pan membrane liner at the base of the shower area and secure it to the sides of the shower wall frame using nails. You will also need to cut out a slit in the membrane to slot in the adjustable shower drain assembly.

Now its time for you to arrange the floor backer boards. An ultimate coat of mortar will give it solidity. Now you will enter the last stage of tiling a shower with ceramic tile.

Carefully install the tiles maintaining level and scales. The design should be effectively centered. After the tiles are set and the grouting is restored, adjust the shower drain assemblage.
