Defeating the Giants

Defeating the Giants

Recently I was asked to host a conference call by one of my mentors in the company I work with, and he said that I got to choose the topic! I thought, great! Thank you for the confidence, but what in the world am I going to speak about? I needed to be encouraging, especially about an upcoming incentive vacation being offered by our company, (a seven day Alaskan cruise). How was I going to help motivate these people, especially when I was having trouble motivating myself? What could I say that would encourage them?

It actually took me until the day of the call to come up with a topic that I thought worth sharing, and only because of the sermon my pastor had given at church that morning. The topic was about courage in facing the giants in our lives. Yes, it was based on the story of David and Goliath, and how David found the courage to defeat the giant who was looming in his life, affecting his kinsmen, and blaspheming his God.

I thought that it really didnt matter what a persons spiritual belief was, everyone would have something to gain from these six principles that I learned that morning. I added a few extra things to make it more applicable to our networking business, but the message is essentially the same.

1. Make sure you have the right motives. Do nothing out of selfish ambition. Make sure you are putting others first, and find the right motive for your business. Helping others means putting their interests at the forefront, not your own.

2. Put your confidence in God/Your Maker, not in yourself. Psalms 121:1 My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. Believing that your Creator made you who you are and helps you each day is one of the core beliefs that a person in network marketing or in any business should hold close to their heart. Let Him work in you.

3. Stay with your strengths. Let God use you as you are, dont try something new and different every week or each new plan that comes on the scene. Stick with your strengths, and grow them. This doesnt mean that you shouldnt grow and develop new skills, but to stick with your core strengths and grow out from there.

4. Always, verbally give recognition to the One who created you and gives you strength. The One who made you who you are and gave you your gifts. You are special. Always be thankful.

5. Move forward, move toward that giant. Dont run away from it, attack it quickly. Think about procrastination, dont do it. If you have to do something, do it early in the day so that its done and out of the way. Then you wont have it hanging over your head undone waiting to be done the next day. So make those calls early while you are fresh.

6. Finish the job. Dont quit when you begin to see success. Dont quit until the success is achieved. When David defeated Goliath, he didnt just expect the stone to have killed him, when Goliath fell to the ground. He finished the job, by pulling Goliaths sword out of the scabbard and finishing him off. Read 1 Samuel 17:1-52.

As a parting thought, before you go and as you go on each day, pray. Pray over yourself, pray over your family, pray over your team. You can use a prayer like this, Lord please give me/my family/my team the courage to do what is right each day. With the courage to what is right, we will have the integrity and strength to move forward and be the success that we were meant to be.
