Gulf of Mexico Formed by a Rotating Hurricane Trapped in the Region

Author: Lance Winslow

Recently in a coffee shop I met a gentleman who had dismissed himself from University Level Study and had developed some interesting theories on land formations of the Americas. His theory included a concept that the Gulf of Mexico some 2.5 billion plus years ago was situated in a place where extreme weather occurred and Hurricanes of a category we have never seen in our present period existed. In his theory these Hurricanes were more like Category VII. Currently our Hurricane Categories on the Saffir/Simpson Hurricane Scale go from one to five Categories. Category Five of course being winds of 155 mph or more; in the Pacific Ocean the Typhoons have much higher winds than this.

Category V Hurricanes are 500 times as damaging as those in Category I. Imagine a Category VII, which we do not believe exist, as they are well within the turbulent possibilities. Some say as we reach a Global Warming Crisis that Super Storms will be common and Severe Storm weather such as F-5 Tornadoes or Category V Hurricanes will top the scales. In this geology minded dismissed scholar he told of an age where Hurricanes were trapped in the Gulf of Mexico by the trade winds and normal and natural flow of the Global Weather patterns and they gained incredible strength and over millions of years dished out the Gulf. Additionally he explained that the State we call Florida was nothing more than a build up of sand delivered by huge wave surges creating a giant sand bar of over 500 miles long.

Although this is not the current teaching, some of his theories do hold a little water, but of course 2.5 Billion years ago was such a long time, no one could ever prove such a crazy theory. Indeed, disproving such a theory is equally as tough? So is this University drop out really right? Or is it just another false observation or interpretation of a detailed look of the over all environments and coastlines of the Gulf? Think on this.
